Have you fallen in love with the daily brain teaser that is Wordle?  But the struggle is real when you want to keep your genius streak going across different devices.

Fear not, fellow word warriors! This guide will show you how to sync Wordle progress in just a few minutes, ensuring seamless gameplay on any computer you use.

No more starting from scratch – conquer those five-letter challenges and keep your streak alive,  all from the comfort of your laptop, desktop, or even a friend’s PC!

Introduction

Wordle has taken the world by storm! Invented by Welsh software engineer Josh Wardle and is popular among millions worldwide. Wordle provides players with six attempts at guessing five-letter.

After each guess, color changes on tiles give clues as to which letters belong in their proper places and are correct.

Wordle’s unique twist: everyone receives the same puzzle each day and only has one chance! This daily challenge keeps users interested, without turning into a time-consuming grind.

Combine this simplicity with its perfect design for social sharing and Wordle has quickly become one of the world’s most beloved apps!

The Solution: Sync Wordle Progress Across Multiple Devices

While there wasn’t an official way to sync progress before, The New York Times (who owns Wordle) came to the rescue in July 2022.

Now, you can seamlessly switch between your laptop, desktop, or even a friend’s computer without losing your precious daily brain teaser progress.  Here’s the best part: all you need is a free NYT account to link your progress!

This eliminates the need for any third-party extensions that might seem tempting but could be risky.  So, keep calm and Wordle on, knowing your genius streak is safe and sound!

1. NYT Account

  • First, navigate to Wordle.com on either your mobile phone or desktop browser and select the bar graph icon at the top right.
  • Click the “Log In or Create an Account” button.
  • Log into an existing NYT account or create one using Google, Facebook, or Apple accounts.
  • Your stats and streaks will now appear wherever you play Wordle and sign in with your NYT account.

Wordle is a fun, straightforward game with only one word being spoken each day – and now upgrading can happen without fear of losing those bragging rights!

What is NYT:

NYT stands for The New York Times, an influential American daily newspaper known for its editorial excellence and investigative reporting. They also maintain a sizable online presence.

In the context of Wordle, The New York Times acquired the game in 2022. This is why they were able to implement the free account sync feature that allows players to save their progress across devices.

2. Third-Party Extensions

Prerequisites:

There are certain things you must have in place to synchronize Wordle progress across multiple PCs. Below are all of the prerequisites, before being able to sync your score on Wordle across all PCs used-

  • PCs that have active internet connections.
  • Chromium-based browsers such as Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
  • Your browser should already support syncing.
  • Install the LocalStorage Sync extension on your browser for LocalStorage to synchronize automatically.

Steps to sync:

  • Open your favorite browser: Chrome, Edge, or anything else that uses the same engine (like Chrome!).
  • Click the three dots in the top right corner.
  • Go to Settings and then Sync.
  • Turn on “Extensions” to sync your saved game data.
  • Install the “LocalStorage Sync” extension from the Chrome Web Store (it’s safe, we promise!).
  • Head back to Wordle. You’ll see a new icon next to the address bar.
  • Click the icon and then “Save” to sync your progress across devices!

Note: Make sure that you’re signed in to your account on the browser you are using to initiate the syncing process. If not signed in yet, do so first before activating extension syncing.

FAQs

Q.1 Is it possible to synchronize Wordle progress safely?

Yes! Now you can easily synchronize your progress using a free New York Times (NYT) account, bypassing potentially risky third-party extensions.

Q.2 Can I still use the LocalStorage Sync extension?

Though using the New York Times account is recommended and official, using unofficial extensions such as LocalStorage Sync may still work for certain browsers. Do so at your own risk!
