Review: Times of India

Eight movies into ‘Fast and Furious’, one would think the testosterone-fueled concept of speeding cars that defy the laws of physics would begin to start losing steam. But Vin Diesel with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Jason Statham and crew manage to keep our eyes glued to the screen just for the sheer spectacle of complete mayhem that ensues.

The franchise does try to do things a bit differently this time around. Since Dominic Toretto is virtually untouchable behind the wheel, turning him against his ‘family’ and leaving his crew to fend for themselves, considerably raises the stakes on a personal front. With the addition of versatile actress Charlize Theron to the mix as a hacker extraordinaire, Diesel even gets to flex some of his acting muscles. Read Full Review Here…

A sequel to 2013’s Fast & Furious 6, it is the seventh installment in the Fast & Furious franchise and stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Djimon Hounsou, Kurt Russell and Jason Statham.

Story: After defeating international terrorist Owen Shaw, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) and the rest of the crew have separated to return to more normal lives. However, Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), Owen’s older brother, is thirsty for revenge. A slick government agent offers to help Dom and company take care of Shaw in exchange for their help in rescuing a kidnapped computer hacker who has developed a powerful surveillance program.

Review: THE NEW YORKER

motors franchise pulls a deep bromantic strain from the real-life drama of its production—the death, midway through filming, of its co-star Paul Walker. He plays Brian, a vehicular warrior who is married to Mia (Jordana Brewster), the sister of his partner-in-arms, Dom (Vin Diesel).

The partners are mobilized again—together with the martial artist Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), who is Dom’s wife; the class clown Roman (Tyrese Gibson); and the tech wiz Tej (Ludacris)—to combat a double-barrelled assault. The evil Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) is trying to kill them, and his partner-in-terror, Jakande (Djimon Hounsou), has kidnapped the hacker Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel), whose “God’s eye” gizmo can track them across the globe. Story: Since Dom (Vin Diesel) and Brian’s (Paul Walker) heist in Rio left them and their crew very rich people, they’ve scattered across the globe; however, they must still live as fugitives, unable to return home to their families. Meanwhile, Agent Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) has been tracking a gang of lethally skilled mercenary drivers whose second-in-command is someone Dom knows. Unable to take them down himself, Hobbs asks Dom and his crew for help in exchange for full pardons for everyone.

Review: Roger Ebert

Muscleheads and muscle car fanatics deserve their own “Star Wars” or “Star Trek,” I guess, and the Fast and the Furious movies seem to fit the bill. Just like those perennial sci-fi geekouts, this saga about super-heroic street racers is essentially about friendship. All the fancy nomenclature and delirious spectacle are just to help render the essential stuff in ways that won’t embarrass a juvenile audience. It works. I don’t think my 10-year-old self could have tolerated Han Solo and Princess Leia kissing at the end of “Return of the Jedi” if not for the consolation of watching the Vietnam War re-enacted by miniature space bears. Assembling their elite team of car racers, Brian and Dom know they must confront the corrupt businessman who wants them dead, before the federal agent (Dwayne Johnson) on their trail finds them.

Review: Roger Ebert

This is the third of the “Fast and the Furious” series starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Jordana Brewster, and here they’re joined by Dwayne Johnson, making it a sort of convention of reckless drivers. Apparently some of these characters have had, in the past, long conversations about their goals, dreams, abilities and values, saving time at the present for terse verbal shorthand. When you hear as many as six words in a row, you suspect it’s a tagline for a trailer (“We need to assemble a team”). Read Full Review Here…

6. Fast & Furious 4

[su_youtube url=”https://youtu.be/YXZjANEY6bA” width=”760″ autoplay=”yes” mute=”yes”]

Fast & Furious 4 is a 2009 American action adventure film directed by Justin Lin and written by Chris Morgan. The fourth installment in the Fast & Furious franchise, it is a direct sequel to The Fast and the Furious (2001), and stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, John Ortiz and Laz Alonso.

Story: Dominic Toretto is forced to come out of hiding when a loved one is brutally murdered. Heading to LA to track down the culprit, he crosses paths with Brian O’Connor, the FBI agent whose undercover infiltration of Toretto’s gang led to the motorised miscreant’s exile across the border. The two men temporarily put their differences aside as they investigate the killing.

Review: THE AGE

LIGHT the fires and kick the tyres, the boys are back in town for more street-racing mayhem in the series that dispenses with brakes, brains and speed limits.

This is the fourth movie but the title has been slimmed down to avoid any clarity. The first one in 2001 made a star of Vin Diesel, an actor with few moving parts. He was Dominic Toretto, a bad boy street racer from the Hispanic end of Los Angeles.

The equally dynamic Paul Walker was Brian O’Conner, an undercover cop who infiltrated the subculture to catch a team of truck hijackers. Michelle Rodriguez was Letty, Dominic’s babe, and Jordana Brewster played his gorgeous sister Mia. Read Full Review Here…

7. Fast & Furious 3

[su_youtube url=”https://youtu.be/Gl-d_UIhdBw” width=”760″ autoplay=”yes” mute=”yes”]

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift is a 2006 American action film directed by Justin Lin, with a screenplay by Chris Morgan. It is the third installment in the Fast & Furious franchise and stars Lucas Black, Sung Kang, Bow Wow, and Brian Tee.

Story: Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) always feels like an outsider, but he defines himself through his victories as a street racer. His hobby makes him unpopular with the authorities, so he goes to live with his father in Japan. Once there and even more alienated, he learns about an exciting, but dangerous, new style of the sport. The stakes are high when Sean takes on the local champion and falls for the man’s girlfriend.

Review: Roger Ebert

The racing strategy is called “drifting.” It involves sliding sideways while braking and accelerating, and the races involve a lot of hairpin turns. The movie ends with a warning that professional stunt drivers were used, and we shouldn’t try this ourselves. Like the stunt in “Jackass” where the guy crawls on a rope over an alligator pit with a dead chicken hanging from his underwear, it is not the sort of thing likely to tempt me.
