Who Can Detect a Child’s Boredom Better in Class – AI or the Teacher?
Have you ever wondered, who can recognize a child’s boredom during class better — a teacher or AI?
While AI can quickly detect kids’ boredom through data and insights, but somehow, it cannot replace the abilities of a human teacher. If you’re satisfied with this statement, and you’re curious to know more about this, read this post till the end, I’ll explain who can actually detect it more accurately.
And if you don’t yet know how AI detects students’ boredom during class, you can check out our detailed post on that topic.
What is AI’s strength? In which situations is it more effective than a teacher at detecting kids’ boredom?
Some mischievous kids often act up quietly in class, and the teacher doesn’t even notice. But AI equipped with smart sensors and cameras, keeps a close watch on even the smallest movements of the students and can warn them before they do anything wrong. However, there are still some things where AI fails to understand a child’s mentality something only a teacher can truly recognize.

Talking about AI’s strength it monitors students’ movements during class their expressions, tone of voice, body language, actions, and even eye movements. Based on past trend data and insights, it can detect which student is getting bored during lessons.
Now, if we talk about the areas where AI performs better than teachers:
1. AI can easily monitor a large number of students –
In a big classroom while a teacher may struggle to manage and keep all students focused on the topic at hand.
2. AI can personally monitor every single student –
Which a teacher cannot. For example – if there are 100 students in a class, it’s impossible for the teacher to focus on all of them at the same time. This often leads to students sitting in the back losing attention, getting bored, and failing to fully grasp the topic.
3. AI can also analyze accurate data, insights, and student behavior
I’ve mentioned before that I used to find history really boring and honestly, I would often fall asleep during those lectures. But I had my own trick to avoid getting caught.
When the teacher asked us to read our books, I’d hold the book up to my face and secretly nap behind it. Not just once or twice – I did that almost the entire year in 9th grade. And as expected, I barely managed to score passing marks in the exams.
If there had been an AI monitoring system back then that could detect my mistakes and help me improve, I probably would’ve scored much better.
That’s exactly what AI does so well — it recognizes patterns in students’ behavior, figures out who’s doing what and as soon as a pattern matches, it can instantly alert the teacher. But a teacher can’t do that they might catch you once or twice, but not every time.
Why isn’t AI as effective as teachers at understanding children’s boredom?
Undoubtedly, AI can monitor children very well. Regarding the facts; according to a report by IJIREEICE in April 2025 – “AI is capable of analyzing children’s attendance with 95% accuracy and behavioral analysis with 86% accuracy.” Additionally, it monitors real-time expressions, eye movements, and body language.
But is AI better than human teachers?

If the discussion is solely about monitoring and providing alerts, I would say – yes. But there are some situations during monitoring that AI cannot understand. Let me tell you where AI cannot compete with a human teacher:
1. In identifying “why” the child is distracted.
An AI monitoring system can tell the teacher which child is distracted during the class/lecture. But it can never tell “why” the child is distracted or why they are feeling bored with the class. Only a teacher can understand this.
Speaking of my own experience - the main reason I felt bored (sleepy) in my history class was the excessive "text" in the book. It didn't have many images. Because of this, seeing too much text would quickly make me sleepy.
And that’s exactly what AI can’t grasp — the emotional, creative, and psychological layers behind a student’s boredom.
So, what is the best option today – AI or a teacher?
When it comes to the best option, it is very important to adapt all things according to the speed at which the world is changing today.
And if you combine the emotional understanding power of a teacher with an AI monitoring system, it will definitely create a deadly combo. This will enable the teacher to keep track of every student and take steps to teach them with emotional and personal attention.
